This looks like a great report to remind us that what we do locally/citywise has the potential to create huge ripples of change:
“(Brussels / Stockholm: 12th June) Cities are rising as powerful agents in the world of food, says a new report from the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food), and they are finding innovative ways to put in place policies that take on challenges in global food systems.”

We also need to remember to keep the food organic/agroecological/biodynamic/regenerative.

Frances, yes wonderful report and timely. I am working with other community members from Brisbane who wish to promote the idea of “Urban Agriculture” on public and private land. A clear Sustainable Food Policy would probably be the first step and hopefully be innovative enough to drive the uptake of a range of local food models. Interestingly most of the case studies and many of the existing policies come from a position of poverty or need and are centered on providing present and future access for all to clean, cheap food. I suspect that our model would need to indicate how a Brisbane of the future will be meeting its food requirements in a climate challenged world in a sustainable way. Paul D
