There are a couple of new stories up on the OFN learn site about Wandiful Produce – a small-scale, biodynamic farm in Victoria’s North-East, growing chestnuts (as well as hazelnuts, seasonal fruit and veg and pastured eggs).
Megan and Geoff’s story has so many interesting parts! Megan’s grandfather first planted hazelnut and chestnut trees back in the 1950s, so there is a lot of intergenerational love for the place. As well as managing the farm, the pair have also built a commercial kitchen and café onsite, they run regular farm tours and pick your own chestnut activities and sell the farm’s produce and value-added products in their farm-gate store. For a better overview, have a read of the full story here. There is also more specific details on how the pair built and opened their own commercial kitchen and café here, and information on how they have marketed their chestnuts through education here.
We would love to hear if anyone has had similar experiences or questions for Megan and Geoff (@wandifulproduce), as they are on the forum to respond.
