Supplemental feed for pigs

Hi all,

We haven’t got around to do an introductory post yet but we’ll get around to it at some stage. We have a small intensive integrated farm in Southern Tas, and as the title might suggest, we fatten some pigs.

We’d like to improve our feed options as pellets and the limited amount of forage we have for them is not enough, especially at this time of year.

We are keen to hear what other people around Australia are sourcing as a supplemental feed or even a foundational feed for their pigs.

Hi Jen, thanks for that.

Yes it is a good read and it mirrors a lot of my thoughts as well. We feed pellets and food waste from our gardens and kitchen. Over the years we have had the food waste coming from school canteen kitchens but we don’t have that at present. I am going to have to make time to try and find some supply chains of spoilt fruit and veg or similar that hasn’t already been snaffled up the many keen pig growers down our way.
